No FIFA 14 For Wii U?
That’s what Eurogamer seem to think….
They’ve suggested that the absence of Madden on the Wii U this year will mean that there isn’t a FIFA either, and put together a detailed account of EA’s outings (or lack of) on Nintendo’s new-ish hardware. Crysis 3 failed to launch even though it was built and Battlefield 4 is a no-go because the Frostbite engine doesn’t run on the Wii U.
EA have been clear that all of the recent FIFA 14 announcements are only in reference to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but that other platforms would be announced. That could still include the Wii U, but we’ll expect to find out more after the Microsoft announcement.
FIFA 13 did appear on the Wii U, albeit without certain features like first touch control and Ultimate Team, and it was actually pretty fun. It made good use of the hardware and from our early playtests we were pretty positive about it. Commercially however it’s a different story. According to VGChartz it’s sold a modest 70,000 units since it’s launch in November and holds a 69 metacritic, not that that means anything, but those kinds of numbers would make it easy for EA to not bother with a Wii U version of FIFA 14.
